The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture has calculated how much energy dairies consume

The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine together with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is working to raise awareness of energy efficiency (EE) and energy saving potential of Ukrainian companies within the technical cooperation project "Energy Efficiency Consulting". The aim of the project is to demonstrate the economic and technical feasibility of measures to improve energy efficiency in companies.

The results of energy audits conducted under the Project at 13 dairy enterprises are presented in the brochure "How much energy is consumed in dairy production?", Which GIZ (Energy Efficiency and Climate Projects) presented with the support of the Ministry of Economy and the State Agency for Energy Efficiency.

This brief analytical report illustrates the structure of energy consumption, the cost of energy consumed for production, the potential for energy savings and specific energy efficiency measures, as well as data on greenhouse gas emissions from dairy enterprises in Ukraine, and demonstrates the potential long-term results of projects in the field.  energy efficiency and climate change.

The study will be of interest to company directors, company owners and investors in the Ukrainian dairy industry, as it will be useful for anyone, not just energy efficiency experts.

Some important conclusions presented in the brochure "How much energy is consumed in dairy production?":

  • The dairy industry largely depends on natural gas: this energy accounts for 57.8% of total energy consumption;
  • Production processes account for 80% of energy consumed;
  • 45% of energy savings can be achieved through the introduction of energy efficiency measures with a payback period of up to 2 years;
  • The total annual energy consumption of dairy enterprises is from 2.3 to 49.5 GWh.
