Dairy Map of Ukraine-2025: Achievements Despite Losses
At the end of May 2025, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine finalized the results of the dairy cattle sector’s performance for 2024 and provided updated data on herd numbers, cow productivity, milk production and delivery for processing, and quality grades.
As usual, the Analytical Department of the Association of Milk Producers prepared the infographic “Ukraine’s Dairy Map” to visually show the indicators with which Ukraine’s dairy sector entered 2025.
It is impressive that despite wartime losses, targeted shelling and destruction, a forced new wave of closures and relocations of farms from war-affected regions, exhausting blackouts, and record-breaking heat from June to September 2024, which caused more than 50% of industrial farms to significantly decline in milk yields, Ukraine’s dairy sector demonstrated significant achievements!

Global Dairy Market: Milk Production Declining
In April, milk production volumes decreased in the EU, the USA, and Oceania. The decline in milk yield was influenced by a reduction in cow herds due to diseases and the negative impact of drought on cow health, pastures, harvests, and water supply. According to FAO, in 2024, global milk production reached 982 million tonnes, an increase of 1.4% compared to 2023. This growth was ensured by a significant increase in production volumes in most regions of the world, which offset the decline in milk yield in Africa and North America.

June 1 — World Milk Day!
Together with the rest of the world, we celebrate World Milk Day — a special day about the love for cows, the resilience of farmers, and milk as a symbol of health and life. And June 1 is no coincidence — it aligns with International Children's Day — because milk is an indispensable product for a healthy and happy childhood, and for the well-being of families worldwide.

Industrial Sector Increased Milk Yield in January-April 2025
Dairy farms increased the production of raw milk in January-April 2025 by 5%, which outpaces the growth rate of milk yield among leading exporters of dairy products. New Zealand increased raw milk production by only 0.2% during this period, while Australia and the Netherlands reduced milk yield by 2%. However, the situation in the dairy market does not favor further growth in milk yield in the industrial sector, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine.

Dairy Farms Increased Cow Population
Dairy farms (DFs) have increased their cow population both compared to the previous month and compared to the same period last year. The general trend of cattle population decline in Ukraine mainly occurs due to household farms, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.

GDT Trading: Prices for Exchange-Traded Goods Declined
According to the results of the GDT trading session, there was a slight decrease in the price index amid falling prices for Cheddar and lactose, and weaker quotes for butter and milk powder, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.

EU Tariff and Quota Resumption Pressures Purchase Prices
Throughout May, raw milk prices in Ukraine remained stable, despite a surplus of supply, which was offset by exports of finished products to the EU. However, the likely resumption of quotas and tariffs by the European Commission in June, the increase in cheese imports to Ukraine, and the risk of foot-and-mouth disease spread pose a threat to price stability in the domestic market, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.

A month has passed since the last confirmed outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Hungary, but it is too early to lose vigilance. Let's figure out why.

Farmers Increased Revenue from Beef Cattle Exports
Demand for beef cattle and beef is growing in Africa, Asia, and Latin America amid production cuts in Brazil, New Zealand, and Europe. Beef cattle prices are expected to rise through the end of 2025, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
