At the Dairy Congress, Yevhen Shatokhin Presented the New AgriAcademy Course: "Rearing and Fattening of Young Cattle"

The new educational platform AgriAcademy, created by the EBRD for the agricultural community, was presented during the XVII International Dairy Congress by Yevhen Shatokhin, an international expert on livestock issues for the FAO and EBRD, and the owner of the agribusiness consulting company "Agrifood Consulting."

The course "Rearing and Fattening of Young Cattle" is designed for farm owners, managers, and employees who aim to develop the segment of cattle rearing and fattening or start a business in this area.

"Today, Ukrainian farmers are looking for proven solutions that will help reduce risks, increase production efficiency, and achieve stable profitability. That is why we have prepared a course that gathers a concentrate of practical experience gained over 25 years of work in the livestock sector," noted Yevhen Shatokhin.

Education That Helps You Earn

The course "Rearing and Fattening of Young Cattle" is a new training program that will soon appear on the AgriAcademy.org platform, which unites dozens of free practical courses for Ukrainian agribusiness.

AgriAcademy is a free online learning platform created at the initiative of the EBRD as part of the program to support food security in Ukraine. Its goal is to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainable development of agriculture, which has suffered significant losses due to the war.

The creation and management of the platform (including course development, study tours, etc.) are supported and funded by the EBRD, as well as:

  • The EBRD Multi-Donor Account for Ukraine Stabilization and Sustainable Growth (donors: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA, and the European Union as the largest donor);
  • The Republic of Ireland through the EBRD Small Business Fund (other fund donors: Italy, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Taipei China, and the USA);
  • The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The course addresses key business organization issues:

  • How to evaluate your own resource base;
  • How to determine the final fattening product;
  • How to avoid typical beginner mistakes;
  • How to organize properly the feeding, housing, and management process for animals.

"We aimed to create not a theoretical lecture but a step-by-step instruction that a farmer can immediately apply in practice. All modules are filmed on real farms, demonstrating technological solutions that have already proven their effectiveness," explains the course author.

Course Structure

The program consists of six modules that cover the entire production cycle:

  1. Grain Fattening of Young Cattle
  2. Resource Base Assessment
  3. Risks, Mistakes, and Control Points in Feedlot Management
  4. Use of Beef Bulls on Dairy Cow Herds
  5. Main Fattening Stages

After each video module, participants take a short test to reinforce the acquired knowledge. The total duration of the course is 4 hours.

The course will be useful for:

  • Farm owners,
  • Livestock complex managers,
