Almost a third of total milk production is produced by the industrial sector

According to the State Statistics Service, in the first half of 2021 the total milk production in Ukraine decreased by 5.6%, or 255 thousand tons compared to the same period last year - to 4.318 million tons.

This was reported by analyst of the Association of Milk Producers Yana Linetska.

An increase in milk production was observed only in Ternopil region (+ 1.4%; 212.5 thousand tons) and Khmelnytsky region (+ 1.2%; 321.5 thousand tons)


At the same time, industrial farms produced 1.383 million tons of milk, which was in line with the previous year. Ternopil region showed the biggest jump here - + 13%, 58.1 thousand tons. Also, there is an increas of Kherson region (25.4 thousand tons; + 9.5%) and Vinnytsia region (112.2 thousand tons; + 6%).


In the first five months of this year, households reduced production by 7.8% to 2.935 million tons. None of the regions had an increase in production.

In general, the shares of the industrial and home sectors in milk production in the first half of the year were 32% and 68%. Last year, the ratio was as follows: 30.4% and 69.6%.

Yana Linetska notes that the industry is currently in peak production.

"Although these are not the peaks that were before.The positive and defining fact is that production in the industrial sector, although not growing, remains stable. However, against the background of reduced milk production in homesteads, the market is already quite There has been a shortage of raw materials for a long time, which affects the growth of purchase prices for milk. According to analysts, milk prices have shown a clear upward trend, "said the expert.
