The volume of "gray" cheese imports, how it gets to Ukraine, why it harms the country's economy, - Olena Zhupinas

Fatty dairy products will continue to become cheaper in Ukraine. The trend will persist until the first half of 2026, and prices may fall by 30-35% before the New Year, stated Olena Zhupinas, Deputy General Director of the Association of Milk Producers (AMP), on the air of the Ukrainian Service of Information.

The main reason for the decline in dairy prices is the decrease in product cost on the European market.

"Since the end of summer, global butter prices have fallen by over 30%. Ukrainian exporters sold this product to the EU last year for €7 per kilogram. Now, that cost is no higher than €4.5," explained the expert.

Currently, Ukrainian processors are reorienting towards the domestic consumer, and the price reduction for butter is already noticeable. This will continue in the future, predicts Olena Zhupinas, but mainly in the form of promotions in sales networks: by 30-35% on store shelves..

This decline, in turn, has significantly affected the raw milk procurement prices. For example, in mid-November, the cost of "Extra" grade milk, which meets European requirements, decreased by 17%. Under these conditions, many producers are working "at cost," and some are even at a loss, added Olena Zhupinas.

How to overcome the "gray" import of cheeses in Ukraine, why it threatens the domestic producer, and why cheap cheese from Poland is killing the Ukrainian industry — in the full version of the interview.
