Between proficit and deficit: an overview of the global dairy market

Despite the decrease in prices for milk raw materials in Europe, too much export supply for dairy products and weak demand on foreign markets, attractive…

Industrial milk production decreased by 1.4%. The seasonal factor will increase the shortage of raw milk material on the market.

According to the results of eight months, 6 million 35.2 thousand tons of milk of all grades were produced in Ukraine, which is 6.2% less than in the corresponding period last year. This is due to the rapid decline in households and insufficient supply from the industrial sector.

This was reported by analyst of the Association of Milk Producers Yana Linetska.

Industrial enterprises provided 30.6% of all milk produced, or 1 million 850 thousand tons. This is 1.4% less than in 2020.

Traditional leaders in the production of industrial milk this year, despite the increase in capacity of individual dairy complexes, show a reduction in production: Poltava (263.8 thousand tons; -1.9%), Cherkasy region (193.5 thousand tons; -6.4 %) and Kharkiv region (167 thousand tons; + 0.5%).

Instead, an increase is observed in such oblasts as Ternopil (+ 13.6%; 78.3 thousand tons), Kherson (+ 7.8%; 33.2 thousand tons) and Vinnytsia (+ 5.5%; 150 , 4 thousand tons).

Therefore, the increase in livestock in industrial farms can not yet compensate for the shaft of milk needed for the market.

Meanwhile, milk production in households decreased by more than 8%. According to the results of January-August, 4 million 185.2 thousand tons of milk were produced in this sector. The milk yields of Kharkiv (-19.7%; 136.3 thousand tons), Chernihiv (-14% 134.2 thousand tons) and Cherkasy (-13.5%; 93.9 thousand tons) oblasts reduced milk yield the most.

"In addition, due to the effects of the July heat, the seasonal factor will increase the shortage of raw milk on the market by the end of the year," said Yana Linetska.
