Hungary has officially confirmed a new foot-and-mouth disease outbreak on a cattle farm with a capacity of 600 cows near Rábapordány, 30 km from the previous outbreak, on the border with Slovakia and Austria on April 17-18, 2025.
This is the fifth case of foot-and-mouth disease in Hungary since the beginning of March and represents a significant geographical jump - the virus has spread approximately 30 kilometers south of the initial outbreak along the border with Slovakia. This development threatens dairy businesses across Central Europe and raises urgent questions regarding containment strategies, as thousands of animals may be culled from farms, according to The Bullvine.
