ATTENTION! LOCUST THREAT TO CROPS

In recent days, there have been increasing reports of locust spread and the threat of crop destruction in some regions.

  • This year's locust population is abnormally large due to ideal weather and uncultivated fields in the South (ecocide caused by the war).
  • The insects migrate up to 20 km/day. Poltava, Kirovohrad, and Vinnytsia regions are under threat.

In light of this, we ask everyone who has detected locust damage to crops, or suspects their appearance, to:

  1. Immediately contact the territorial body of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) in your district/region — this body is authorized to conduct inspections and take necessary measures to control the pest.
  2. Also, be sure to inform your Association of Milk Producers (AMP) manager so we can promptly respond, monitor the overall situation, and, if necessary, facilitate interaction with regulatory bodies.

In your message, please include:

  • Exact location of the fields where locust spread has been recorded (village, community, district, oblast)
  • Approximate affected area
  • Photos/videos (if possible)

We recommend farmers and agricultural enterprises to carefully monitor the condition of their lands and:

  1. In case of a significant increase in numbers — contact the territorial bodies of the SSUFSCP.
  2. If necessary — apply insecticides listed in the State Register of Pesticides and Agrochemicals, adhering to their application regulations.
  3. In autumn — carry out agricultural measures (disking, plowing) to prevent eggs from remaining in the soil.

Current situation in Ukraine:

Zaporizhzhia Oblast – locust control measures are ongoing.
Kherson and Odesa Oblasts – locust hotspots have been eliminated.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast – no confirmed excessive locust numbers.
In other regions of Ukraine, there are currently no reports of increased locust numbers.
