The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) has prohibited the importation of animals and products of animal origin from specific regions of the Netherlands, Lithuania, and Spain due to outbreaks of dangerous animal diseases, according to the SSUFSCP.
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) has prohibited the importation of animals and products of animal origin from specific regions of:
- The Netherlands — due to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza;
- Lithuania — due to the detection of Bluetongue disease;
- Spain — due to cases of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in cattle.
The restrictions apply to live animals, hatching eggs, dairy products, hides, and genetic material, except for products that have undergone processing guaranteeing the destruction of the disease agents.
Specifically, cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza were recorded in the Netherlands. To prevent the introduction of the pathogen into Ukraine, the import of hatching eggs, poultry, and poultry products has been banned, except for those that have undergone special treatment guaranteeing the destruction of the virus.
Cases of Bluetongue disease were detected in Lithuania. The SSUFSCP has banned the import of animals susceptible to the virus and their genetic material.
Cases of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in cattle were registered in Spain. Therefore, the import of susceptible animals, reproductive material, fresh and chilled hides, raw milk, and dairy products intended for human consumption has been banned, with the exception of products processed by methods that guarantee the destruction of the causative agent.
