In the difficult conditions of wartime, despite rising production costs and the energy crisis, the industrial sector continues to compensate for the reduction in raw milk supply from the household sector for processing, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, analyst at the Association of Milk Producers (AMP).
According to State Statistics Service of Ukraine (SSSU) data, 2,412.3 thousand tonnes of raw milk were delivered to processing plants in January-August 2025.
Of this volume, 2,100.4 thousand tonnes of raw milk (87%) came from agricultural enterprises (industrial farms).
140.3 thousand tonnes of milk (6%) came from the household sector for processing. Another 171.6 thousand tonnes (7%) account for milk produced at the processing plants themselves and milk from third-party suppliers.
It is worth noting that agricultural enterprises have compensated for the reduction in milk supplies for processing from household farms, whose share is shrinking.
A decline in domestic consumption and the number of buyers, difficulties with exports due to falling world prices for milk powder, butter, and cheese, as well as rising production costs, are not conducive to the industry's development.
According to the SSSU, in January-August 2025, milk processing enterprises used the specified volume of raw milk to produce the following dairy products:
- Drinking Milk: 319.0 thousand tonnes
- Cream ≤ 29%: 12.9 thousand tonnes
- Cream > 29%: 29.2 thousand tonnes
- Fermented Dairy Products (yogurt, kefir, etc.): 226.9 thousand tonnes
- Condensed Milk: 21.6 thousand tonnes
- Whole Milk Powder: 10.5 thousand tonnes
- Partially Skimmed Milk Powder: 0.8 thousand tonnes
- Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP): 31.7 thousand tonnes
- Butter (80–90% fat): 50.8 thousand tonnes
- Cheeses (excluding processed): 93.2 thousand tonnes.
