The Association of Milk Producers (AMP) welcomes the decision of the Council of the European Union on October 13 to update the parameters of trade between the EU and Ukraine regarding agricultural products. This is an important step that opens additional opportunities for the export of Ukrainian dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, and meat and meat products to the EU market.
The updated Council decision provides for the reduction or abolition of tariffs for a number of agri-food products, which should promote trade expansion and deeper integration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector into the European market.
Within the framework of the new regime, increased quotas are provided for certain dairy products (for butter, skimmed milk powder, and condensed milk), which opens up real export opportunities and offers a chance to develop processing and added value domestically.
At the same time, it is important to emphasize that further supplies require gradual harmonization with European production standards—particularly concerning phytosanitary measures, veterinary requirements, pesticide use, and animal welfare. Such an approach will ensure not only export growth but also the long-term compliance of our products with the quality requirements of the EU market.
We will discuss how the signing of the new trade arrangements will affect Ukraine's export potential during the International Dairy Congress on October 17-18.
