Calm in the market of milk prices

After a seasonal increase in the price of raw milk, the rapid growth of which was quite unexpected at the end of last year, now the market is "calm".

This was announced by the chief analyst of the Association of Milk Producers Volodymyr Andriyets.

The year ended with the establishment of the weighted average price of three varieties at 11.64 UAH / kg. The cost of extra grade averages 12.15 UAH / kg, the highest - 11.7 UAH / kg, the first - 11.08 UAH / kg.  The range of price fluctuations for medium and large batches of extra milk by region is recorded in the following limits: north and center - 11.7-12.4 UAH / kg, south - 11.7-12.4, east - 11.6-12  , 4 UAH / kg, measure - 11.6-12.3 UAH / kg.

At the beginning of the new year, the market is traditionally calm.

"No changes have taken place yet, although by the end of January we are talking about the beginning of the seasonal decline.  What it will be like this year will depend on the degree of shortage of raw materials at processing plants, which has been acute over the past two years.  This year will not be an exception, and therefore it will be the main factor in maintaining prices during the seasonal decline, along with the high cost of ration components, " said Volodymyr Andriіets.

In addition, the expert emphasizes that the main factors that will put pressure on prices will be the demand for dairy products, which will be determined mainly by the purchasing power of the population and possible quarantine restrictions.  Also, no less important factor is the import of dairy products, which has doubled in monetary terms over the past year and is likely to continue to grow gradually, albeit at a slower pace.

"For now, the price revision for the first half of February will not mark the start of the seasonal decline.  It is likely that its beginning will be noticeable in the second half of February against the background of increasing supply of raw milk," said Volodymyr Andriyets.
