AMР Analytical Department. Milk production in January: significant increase from industrial farms

According to the results of January 2022, Ukraine produced 522.1 thousand tons of milk, which is 1.5% less than in January last year. At the same time, 243.3 thousand tons or 46.6% of all milk was produced by industrial farms and 278.8 thousand tons (53.4%) in households.

This was reported by analyst of the Association of Milk Producers Yana Linetska.

She notes that industrial enterprises (according to the State Statistics Committee), despite the rather modest increase in the number of cows in January, showed a significant increase in milk production: compared to last year, milk volumes increased by almost 7%, and compared to annual dynamics - by 9.2%.

"The increase in industrial milk production is quite expected and is due to the investment of farms in increasing livestock productivity and production efficiency. However, as the practice of previous years shows, it is the indicators of the first month of January that the State Statistics Service will adjust for the next 2-3 months, since then the increase indicator of the industrial sector will change downwards, however, the AMP Analytical Department expects that the increase in the share of milk from dairy farms will not be lower than 4-5%", - said the expert.

The largest increase in production on dairy farms was observed in Kherson (+ 23.7%; 4.7 thousand tons), Ternopil (+ 21.7%; 11.2 thousand tons) and Kirovograd (+ 16%; 5, 8 thousand tons) areas.

At the same time, the leaders remain: Poltava region (34.7 thousand tons), Cherkasy region (26.5 thousand tons) and Chernihiv region (21.5 thousand tons).

Production rates in households decreased by 7.8% compared to last year. Households in Kyiv and Rivne oblasts increased production by 1.7 and 0.9%, respectively. The farms of Vinnytsia (25.6 thousand tons), Khmelnytsky (22.8 thousand tons) and Zhytomyr (21.8 thousand tons) oblasts produce the most milk.

"This year we should expect the strengthening of market trends - milk production in industrial farms will increase, and the population - to decline. However, it should be understood that the ratio of milk produced in industrial farms will change during the year. Especially in the spring and summer", - said Yana Linetska.

The most important trends, challenges and new opportunities for milk producers will be discussed during the 15th International Dairy Congress on February 28 - March 1.
