Agro Ukraine Summit: AMP Expert on Challenges and Prospects for Ukraine's Dairy Farming Amidst Global Changes

Olena Zhupinas, expert, Deputy General Director, and Head of AMP's Projects of Cooperation with Processing , participated in the international agricultural event Agro Ukraine Summit-2025, which took place on June 6 in Kyiv.

During the panel discussion "Main Problems and Current Trends in Livestock Development,"  Olena Zhupinas highlighted the current state of Ukraine's dairy farming, losses due to the war and achievements in 2024, global trends in dairy farming, and the additional challenges they pose for Ukraine's dairy industry.

"By 2035, the world forecasts a 2% reduction in the annual increase of raw milk production, which will lead to an intensification of unmet demand of up to 20 million tonnes per year. Can Ukraine seize this opportunity, and under what conditions? Or will it become an outsider?" Olena Zhupinas set the tone for the discussion and emphasized the main challenges and tasks for Ukrainian farms:

  • Survival! Exhaustion from the war. Lack of tools for restoring war-affected dairy farms.
  • European integration: Lack of awareness, clear practical and financial tools for transformation.
  • Trade challenges in interacting with the EU, logistical access to growing markets in Asia and Africa.
  • Climatic challenges: The example of 2025 with heavy rains in the north and center, and devastating drought in the south; record heat.
  • Epizootic threats: For the first time in over 50 years, foot-and-mouth disease and bluetongue are near the Ukrainian border.
  • Staff shortages significantly exacerbated by the challenges of war.
  • Risk of investment rollback in milk and beef production due to the weak competitiveness of domestic milk and meat processing and the need for rapid and capital-intensive modernization.

AMP's participation in the summit became an important step towards strengthening partnerships with key industry representatives and forming a shared vision for the sustainable development of Ukraine's dairy industry in the context of European integration and global industry transformations.
